Beautiful Simple Bird Bath Fountain! PERFECT!
The Houyang Bird Bath Solar Fountain is exactly what I hoped for! A natural looking bird bath that would sit flat. The green is a muted Sage and the quiet rust-color overlay gives it a lovely texture. Winds can gust on our hilltop, but filled, it is heavy enough so it won’t blow away. This very overcast morning — well before fully daylight — the fountain started to bubble! Yesterday I noticed hummingbirds were intimidated by the splashing of the ‘fountain’ versions so I changed to the simple, single-hole end piece. As another reviewer mentioned, the water now burbles without splashing outside the bowl and losing all the water from the bath. It’s hard to find a bird bath that is Not ornamented with patterns, bright colors or birds. Less is definitely more!

(UPDATED REVIEW 11/6/25 – from 5 stars to 1 star…)I started using this fountain in July 2025 and thought it was great – see my original review below. However, as of the beginning of September, this fountain quit working. I was using this fountain every day from July through the first week in September – so almost two continuous months. During this time, I filled the fountain daily after cleaning it thoroughly. I was using rain water from our filtered rain barrels, versus using hard water from the well. When the fountain stopped working, I noticed that the solar panels on top the fountain were starting to delaminate (see photo). I’m sure this is what is causing the fountain to no longer work. I did take apart the fountain pump to make sure it was clean, and to make sure the filter was clean – both were very clean still, so I know the pump is not the issue.For the $40 price of this solar fountain, I really expected it to last more than two months and am really disappointed. I have other similar solar fountains that I use in birdbaths, and have used them for YEARS without failure. I wish THIS fountain was more durable like my other fountains.Because of the size and design of this bowl, I’m having a hard time finding another solar fountain to fit perfectly in the recessed area of the bowl. I’m also not happy that I have to buy another fountain to replace this one – especially after just two months of use.(ORIGINAL REVIEW…)I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect when I ordered this bird bath. It’s more expensive than I normally would spend on something of this size, but I decided to take a chance on it – and I’m glad I did! I really do love this little bird bath!The bowl is made of metal and is very sturdy. The shape allows birds to sit on the edge and easily bathe in the bowl without the bowl being too deep. The size of the bowl also allows the fountain to bubble in the center, allowing space all around the bubbler for birds to bathe in the bowl without getting in the way of the bubbler.The bowl has a slight texture to it, but not so much that it’s hard to clean between refilling.The bowl is a verdigris green color with flecks of terra cotta. These colors fit into the landscaping very well.The solar fountain fits into the bottom of the pool perfectly – just press it into the bowl and it stays put. Because of how the fountain fits into the bowl, it can be a little tricky removing the fountain when you want to clean the bowl. Just turning the bowl upside down isn’t enough to pop the fountain out – you kind of have to pry it out a little bit. Water does accumulate under the fountain in that bowl space, so you really do need to pop the fountain out when cleaning in order to thoroughly clean the bowl.The solar fountain doesn’t have battery storage, so it only works on bright sunny days or when the bowl isn’t in shadows. This bird bath could have been made better if it included the same type of solar fountain, but one that does have a battery to store power. That way, the fountain would work even after the sun sets. I might switch out the included fountain for one that has a battery – they are all pretty much the same standard size.The bowl size holds plenty of water to last at least a day. I refill the bowl daily with fresh water. I like the size of the bowl and the water capacity – it works very well for where I’m using this. But I could see this same style/design bird bath in a slightly larger bowl as well – one that would hold more water. That would be a nice option.I wanted a bird bath / water bowl / fountain feature that would sit in the rocks around our patio, so I am thrilled with this bird bath. It works perfectly in our landscaping.PROS:- Quality materials- Fountain fits bowl perfectly- Easy to clean- Holds enough water for one dayCONS:- Solar fountain isn’t the type that has a battery for continued use without the sun- Can be a little tricky getting fountain out of bowl for daily cleaning (but this isn’t a huge issue)

The only reason I gave it a four star is when you block even a small part of the solar panel it stops working. I love the size of it and it came well packed. Waiting for the birds to come and drink out of it ! Sun exposure:has to be in full sun without any shade on the solar panel Weight:It’s lightweight. But the water makes it heavier.sturdy

For the cost, it works!
For the cost and functionality of the solar motors, it’s a good quality. Requires direct sunlight for it to work at all times. Even slight cast of standing by it will make it stop operating. Be cautious as in the heat water will evaporate and instructions state pump needs to be in water otherwise it will malfunction.

Really pleased with this lovely little solar bird bath. Does need full sun and pick a low flow attachment so you don’t lose water on a windy day. Waiting for the hummingbirds to arrive and I hope use it. Otherwise I do like it in my table as a decorative item. Has to have water at all times or the little motor will burn out. Bowl is lightweight metal.
